About Us

RICK LAFFERTY

Rick Lafferty is a licensed real estate broker and general contractor in the state of California. He graduated from California State University, Chico with a degree in Business Management and a minor in Economics. Out of college, Rick worked for a foundry business. After that industry declined, he ventured into home development establishing his own firm in 1984. Rick started as a custom home builder with his first endeavor consisting of three homes in Danville, one of which is where he currently resides. During this time, Rick and his wife Leslie Lafferty raised their two daughters, Nicole & Brittany, in that same home and welcomed their three grandchildren who all still live in the Tri-Valley area. Nicole is a 4th Grade Teacher in Danville while Brittany joined the family business.

During his 40 years in the home building industry, Rick has always understood that expectations should be exceeded. His leadership has established the extraordinary standards for design and construction that are hallmarks of every community built by Lafferty. His roots in custom homebuilding are expressed in his appreciation of fine craftsmanship and his eye for detail.

LAFFERTY COMMUNITIES

Lafferty Communities is a private family-owned company with sound financial backing. Our appreciation of the homebuilding craft can be seen throughout our communities with enhanced exterior architecture on the homes, our streetscapes, parks and other amenities. Merged with our appreciation for quality is a clear grasp of how to balance technology and creativity with solid value.

We understand that the design and construction of a community can contribute to individual well-being. That’s why Lafferty Communities features customizing options, flexible spaces and recreational amenities that contribute to a style of living that’s healthier, more social and more active.

Home is personal for us too. Everyone at Lafferty Communities takes personal pride in creating inspired living environments with value-added residences that are handcrafted, just for you.

LOCAL BUILDER

During the lifespan of the company, Lafferty has been geographically centered in Northern California. Our primary core business is located right here in our backyard. We live in the same communities where we work to create new communities. Though we have expanded our operations, our headquarters has always been in San Ramon, CA. Not only does Lafferty Communities focus on building high quality homes, Rick remains enthusiastic about building a better Bay Area. Rick strongly believes that building a community does not only include roads and homes but involves supporting the entire communities through efforts such as:

  • Operation Cranberry Sauce supporting Livermore’s Crosswinds Church holiday food drive annually.
  • Supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation
  • Supporting local women’s shelters such as Sheperds Gate.
  • Supporting local children’s shelters such as the Shelter, Inc. organization
  • Annual support of the East Bay SPCA

Rick and the entire Lafferty Communities team took a personal interest in the devastation and loss resulting from the Tubbs fires in Santa Rosa in 2017. Rick put together a team of engineers, architects, landscapers, contractors and was able to successfully rebuild over 80 homes destroyed in the fire providing families the opportunity to continue to live in the community they love.

As a private builder Rick can take on communities that have some more interesting qualities and attributes. We have designed and contracted the implementation of wetlands in the North Bay as a function of community development in Marin County. This was especially exciting as it was a tidal marsh with very diverse plant life and cover for habitat. We have also recently built a small educational park with an interpretive plaque discussing physical features that were kept in the community. The features were stone walls that are found in the San Jose area that we were able to keep intact during construction and make them a feature of the community. The rehabilitation of the Manteca Waterslide Park into a beautiful residential community with many amenities for the homeowners along the newly constructed lakes. The rebuilding of a historic home in Petaluma as a central feature of a small new home community.
